Frequently Asked Questions

Will we have the Shack to ourselves?

Yes! You will have the sole use of the Shack and the bunkhouse (if booked). However, the owners, their family and limited others do also launch boats from the shore but will not disturb you up at The Shack.

Are there any bedrooms or bathrooms at The Shack?

Yes! Guests have the option to book the bunkhouse which is comprised of 3 rooms with queen beds and 1 room with 2 singles. Hire of The Shack (even without the bunkhouse option) also comes with one bathroom that has a toilet and shower. Guests will need to bring their own toiletries.

Does it cost extra to book the Bunkhouse?

For each room it will cost an additional $50 one-off fee, however, linen is NOT provided. You can book any/all of the rooms, however if you require a specific room (i.e. queen vs king singles) then please mention this in your booking.

Bunkhouse rooms can be added to your reservation AFTER you have finalised your booking and have made the payment. Once you’ve made your payment for the standard ‘camping-only’ rate, you will be prompted to ‘add on’ some/all of the bunkhouse rooms.

Can we bring our pets along?

Unfortunately, we do require all pets to please stay at home.

Is there Wi-Fi at The Shack?
Sorry, no Wi-fi available. However, there is adequate mobile phone coverage (not so great with Optus).
What do I need to bring?

Although we provide the basic cooking necessities, you will need to bring your own food for meals (unless you’re dining out at the spectacular cafes and restaurants nearby!).

You will also need to bring linen and towels if you are staying in the Bunkhouse.

Please click HERE for a downloadable PDF of what to bring vs. what’s included in your stay.

Can I have my event here?
We are currently very strict with our maximum of 15 guests at any given time. If your event would have 15 or less attendees, please talk to us about the possibility of hosting your event at The Shack.
Is the rate cheaper if we have less than 15 people?
Unfortunately, no. The rates listed on our home page are applicable regardless of how many guests there are.
Can I have visitors during my stay?

Sure, so long as you do not exceed a total of 15 different people who come to The Shack during your stay (including booked guests). For example, if there are 10 people staying at The Shack then you can have a TOTAL of 5 guests who come to visit throughout the course of your stay.

All visitors MUST be well-informed of the rules, how to find The Shack and must also sign the waiver of liability form upon arrival.

Which area of Tinaroo is The Shack located in?
The Shack is on the Kairi side of Tinaroo. This is approximately a 10-minute drive from the township of Tinaroo (towards the Atherton side). It is roughly a 5-minute boat ride from The Shack to the Yungaburra/ Tinaburra area. Bare foot bay is directly across from us.
How's the serenity?
We are located right on the shore of Tinaroo dam. Although we try to ensure your stay is as peaceful as possible, we cannot guarantee that there will no unexpected noises during your stay. As we are surrounded by working farms, we sometimes hear tractors, motorbikes, dogs, scare-guns, planes and other noises. You can also expect to hear others enjoying themselves out on the lake as well as the abundance of wildlife that surrounds.
Can we explore the farm?
Unfortunately, no. This is a working Avocado farm and there are numerous tractors and other machinery moving about. Please do not leave the area highlighted in yellow (“safe zone”) on the map we sent you, unless you are entering or exiting the farm (in a car) along the main driveway. There is plenty of foreshore for you to enjoy. Please remember that we have a speed limit of 20km/hr along the main driveway.
What's the weather like?
The weather in Kairi varies quite a lot. Some days are beautiful and sunny, others can be quite drizzly. Unfortunately, we can’t predict the weather, so we’ve tried to make the Shack as accommodating as possible for all weather by adding a spacious under cover area for the drizzly days and a large fire pit for the cold mornings. We recommend checking the BOM before your stay, so you know what to expect as winter can get very cold.
How do we check-in?

We have set up a contactless check-in at the shack. Check-in involves all guests over 18 signing a waiver of liability form, and then opening the key safe with the code that you’ll receive in your booking confirmation email.

Is the water safe to swim in?
Absolutely! Tinaroo Dam is used for recreation and irrigation. We have no stingers, sharks or saltwater crocodiles!
Is the water safe to drink?
The water to The Shack is filtered bore water. It has been tested as potable and we drink it all the time! If you’d prefer bottled water, please feel free to bring your own.
Is Smoking Allowed?
There is no smoking permitted inside The Shack or in the bunkhouse. All cigarette butts must be disposed of in the ashtray provided.
What time is check-in and checkout?
Check in can be any time after 1:00pm. Checkout is 11:00am
Are there any noise restrictions?
There is to be no noise after 10pm or before 7am. If you wish to play music, then please ensure it cannot be heard more than 100 meters away from The Shack.
What wildlife might visit?
We have an abundance of bird life as well as wallabies, bandicoots and rabbits.
